Selector Magazine 50 Best Wines 2018 – 2011 Awakening Cabernet Sauvignon

We are very pleased to announce that our 2011 Awakening Cabernet Sauvignon has been rated in Selector Magazine’s Top 50 Wines for 2018 – 1 of 3 Margaret River wineries to make the list.

Australia’s 50 best wines as judged by Wine Selectors’ expert tasting panel is a pretty good overview of Australian wine. Having blind sampled 4000+ wines over the last 12 months, it is an independent assessment of what they believe are the best of the best.

What they said:
“Unlike many other regions in Australia, the 2011 vintage was a cracker in Margaret River and this Cabernet reaped the benefits, winning Gold medals at the 2013 Royal Melbourne Wine Show and 2014 Mundus Vini International Wine Show. A distinguished aged red, its acidity is still fresh with a lovely tannin foundation driving the integrated core of dark fruit and quality oak”.

Congratulations to our team and all the producers of the 2018 Top 50 Wines.

Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc of the Year

We are very pleased to announce that our 2017 Shades Sauvignon Blanc Semillon was awarded Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc of the Year at the 2018 Melbourne International Wine Competition.

Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is one of the classic Margaret River wine styles. Watershed’s Shades SBS shows delicious tropical fruit and citrus aromas which are complemented by the grassy nuances of Semillon. The wine is fresh and vibrant showing passion fruit characters with a crisp lingering finish.

The Melbourne International Wine Competition is the first major international wine competition with trade only judges comprised of buyers from the top retail stores, sommeliers, restaurant owners, hotel beverage directors, distributors and importers.

James Halliday Reviews – Wine Companion 2019

James Halliday Wine Companion 219

The wines for James Halliday’s 2019 Wine Companion have been tasted and the results are in. Our 2016 Awakening Chardonnay received an exceptional score of 98 POINTS which firmly places it amongst the finest chardonnays in the country.

98 Points – 2016 Awakening Chardonnay

The soaring intensity and precision of the wine obliterates any comment about the oak. It is one of those uncommon chardonnays, that demands you give it time – the more the merrier. Grapefruit is the masthead, but it gathers around it a suite of flavours that keep its energy and drive on track. To 2034

96 Points – 2014 Awakening Cabernet Sauvignon

Laden with Gold medals, this bottle incites heady expectations! Thankfully, it doesn’t disappoint. Graphite, cassis, pencil lead and bouquet garni set the aromas alight. A sinuous, mid-weighted frame. Bay leaf and black olive confer a more savoury chord. The oak serves as a conduit for the intensity of fruit, dishing up a gentle bit of roughage across the finely wrought beam of grape tannins. Will age well.To 2029.

94 Points – 2015 Senses Cabernet Merlot

An 81/19% blend matured in new and used French oak for 18 months. Fragrant blackcurrant/cassis aromas set the compass for a medium-bodied wine that has a delicious stream of cassis and plum running down the middle of the palate with no need to even think about interference from tannins. To 2030.

91 Points – Shades Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2017

91 Points – Senses Chardonnay 2017

91 Points – Senses Viognier 2011

91 Points – Shades Merlot 2016
