2010 Awakening Cabernet Sauvignon

Specially selected parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon have been blended to produce this wine for the Awakening range. The wine displays complex aromas of blackcurrant, liquorice and choc mint, with hints of mocha.

On the palate, the dense velvety texture is complemented by cigar box, black olive notes followed by fine silky tannins from 18 months maturation in French oak barriques.

The price has come down from the original $100 despite six trophies at the Perth Wine Show ’12, one at the National Wine Show (plus all the attendant gold medals). The colour is still a superb crimson-purple, fulfilling, indeed exceeding the promise it held when first tasted Jan ’13. It is not a powerhouse, rather it is elegant, medium-bodied and very long, its cassis fruit delicately framed by tannins woven through high quality French oak.

Such a complete example of Margaret River Cabernet. Already displaying aromatic complexity with spices, dark plum and varietal cigar box. But it is the palate that sets this apart. So velvety smooth and seamless with perfect oak and fruit integration, yet there is underlying power and structure that says cabernet. One of the finest Margaret River cabernets and one with a long future. Multi trophy winner that says the judges liked it as well.
