2016 Senses Chardonnay

This single vineyard chardonnay has been produced using selected fruit from the Watershed estate vineyard. Barrel fermentation in new and seasoned French oak barriques has created an intense and complex wine.

The nose displays lifted citrus and stone fruit aromas, complemented by flinty and nutty characters.

On the palate this wine exhibits a creamy texture with a lingering crisp finish. Enjoy this wine now or alternatively cellar for up to 5 years.

Fruit and regional identity. Sense of place: Margaret River. The wines are a good example of typical Margaret River characters. More concentration and complexity through extended maturation and barrel fermentation.

Rating: 96 Points
Small batch-fermented in French oak (18.5% new) on lees for 7 months with light battonage. The combination of high quality cool grown grapes and sensitive winemaking has produced this lovely chardonnay, the first release of a chardonnay in the Senses range. Delicacy teams with intensity (an oxymoron if ever there was one), grapefruit, white peach and nectarine the drivers, not the oak.

A lighter-bodied chardonnay that sits below the Awakening. Yet this is very good. Minerally with a creamy texture showing some subtle cashew character. Vibrant and alive on the palate with the clever use of oak as a feature. CELLAR – 5 years
